Life Learning

We know that as well as academic success, we have a responsibility to prepare students for life outside of school

There are three Life Learning sessions a week; Venture, Endeavour and PSHCE. These are built into the school day to ensure that every child can access the opportunities and learning these sessions provide. Life Learning is about developing student’s confidence, character and competence, so they can be self-assured and positive members of any community they belong to.

“The school places the highest value on providing enrichment activities during ‘endeavour’ time.”

In Venture, students take part in a range of House competitions over a series of weeks. These require students to work as part of a team across different year groups, developing communication, creativity and problem solving. It also further strengthens relationships across different year groups, reinforcing the sense of community at Wetherby High School.

Endeavour allows students to choose to take a part in either an activity they have a real passion for or an activity they want to try for the first time. We are committed to helping all students find something they enjoy and are passionate about. At KS4, students can gain additional qualifications in these activities, supporting applications for Post-16 education, employment and higher education. The whole staff team deliver a wide range of activities and this again supports relationship building and a sense of community across year groups and across students and staff.

Personal, Social, Health, Citizenship and Economic Education sessions are designed to give the students the opportunity to discuss and debate topical issues and world affairs. It is about students developing their understanding and opinions and having the confidence to effect change in their communities and society. Topics are carefully planned and regularly reviewed to meet the needs of our students.

PSHCE lessons are also where we deliver our Relationships and Sex Education curriculum.
